This rugby world cup was one of a kind with the home nation, England, sadly not getting past the group stages, a fully southern hemisphere semi-final and after New Zealand lifted the trophy in what was a thrilling final. This was one of the best world cup yet!
Japan, winning their last rugby game 24 years ago, beat South Africa 34-32! Going into the match, the odds for Japan to win were 44-1. The Japanese captain Michael Leitch decided, in the last minutes of the match, to attempt to go for a try instead of drawing with South Africa. This risky decision stirred up one of the greatest upsets in rugby history.
The All Black's 62-13 victory over France was one of the most skilled performance that any team produced in the world cup, putting themselves in a league of their own.
As well as that, there was Sonny Bill Williams who gave his medal to Charlie Lines, who was tackled while running onto the pitch when the All Blacks' were doing their lap of honour.
Greatest success story- Argentina:
Argentina are the unsung heroes of the competition. They despite all odds sealed an all southern hemisphere semi-final, beat a injury crippled Ireland, and put up a good fight against South Africa, gaining 4th place overall.
Sadly after this amazing world cup, rugby legend Jonah Lomu died of a heart attack aged 40. He retired from rugby in 2002 from a rare kidney disease called nephrotic syndrome, had a kidney transplant in 2004 and has been on dialysis treatment ever since.
